my prison experience gives me energy to do more for NDC -Abodakpi

In a few weeks the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), will be going for congress to elect new executives to steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.
A lot of interest has been shown from leading members of the party ready and prepared to take over from lackluster chairman Kofi Portuphy.
One of the five candidates who is poised and focused to inject vibrancy and efficiency to the NDC is former Ambassador to Malaysia, Dan Abodakpi.
Mr. Dan Abodakpi, together with other government officials who served under President Rawlings was giving a prison sentence in 2007 for causing financial loss to the state under President Kufuor, but was later giving a presidential pardon.
Interacting with sharpnewsgh in Accra, Mr. Dan Abodakpi who is contesting for the chairmanship position said he was not incarcerated because he was a thief, neither did he misappropriate state funds while serving as a public servant.
Reminiscing what led to his imprisonment, the former three term MP for Keta said ‘’it was the misfortune associated with the politics of the nation where we think we should prosecute political opponents in order to gain advantage. I did nothing wrong to suffer imprisonment, it was a pure political persecution. Going through that experience has reinforced my conviction to work for the benefit of the ordinary masses because history tells me, some of the greatest leaders in the world have all had to suffer the fate that I suffered and gold to be truly purified needs to go through fire. I am more fortified and resolute now more than ever before.’’
Those contesting the chairmanship race are; Amb. Dan Abodakpi, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo director of elections, Alhaji Huudu Yahaya for general secretary, vice chairperson Betty Mould Iddrisu and Danny Annan.
The issue of his imprisonment played out at the 2014 congress in Kumasi which saw Kofi Portuphy winning the slot. As to whether the prison tag worked against him or not, Mr. Abodakpi insisted that he flogged the matter during the last congress and doesn’t believe it worked against him the last time and it will also not affect his fortunes at next month’s polls in Accra.
‘’I have a fire burning in me and that fire cannot be quenched by such uninformed comments, they will not disturb me in any way. The party must be brought back to power; we need the party that the masses can truly claim they belong to or is theirs, because they are participants in the process , from the branch level to the highest levels,’’ Mr. Abodakpi stressed.
