Renaming of Universities – Folks, the rush to rename existing institutions of higher learning by President NADAA using the Majority in Parliament or a University Council as a conduit is motivated by pure partisan political considerations.
The renaming of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Navrongo, the renaming of the University of Business and Integrated Development Studies in Wa and the renaming of the University of Energy and Natural Resources in Sunyani after C.K Tedam, S.D Dombo and Dr. Busia respectively, suggests that the President is frantically trying to establish a legacy for his political tradition on the back of work neither he nor his political tradtion can be credited for.
The President claimed the decision to rename the University of Energy and Natural Resources after Dr. Busia was taken by the University Council, a day before his arrival to grace the congregation of the University. What a coincidence?
If the President wants to leave a genuine and legitimate legacy for his political tradition, he should build/establish new institutions of higher learning and name them after his precursors.
I remain a citizen.
