Time indeed has an interesting way of revealing the truth.
In the NDC’s release on Akufo-Addo’s Deceptive One Village, One Dam initiative dated 9th June, 2019, we asked the following critical questions of the 1V1D initiative:
1. We demanded to know the cost and specifications of the so-called 1V1D projects as awarded.
2. We asked how contractors were expected to deliver small-scale irrigation Dams for GHS256,000, when JICA was constructing similar dams at GHS2.4 million.
Very typical of the deceitful nature of the Akufo-Addo government, Hon. Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah (KON) came out with an official response, calling the NDC names and claiming that ”99% of 1V1D projects are without incident”.
Below is a video of the Minister for Special Development Initiatives, Hon. Hawa Koomson whose Ministry is in charge of the execution of the 1V1D initiative. The Minister in this video has confessed that indeed GHS256,000 is not enough to construct any proper small scale irrigation Dam, and that constructing a meaningful’ Dam will require about $3 million.
The chickens have finally come home to roost!
By this confession, the minister has admitted that what is being delivered to the people of the north under the 1V1D policy of the Akufo-Addo government are not “meaningful Dams” (whatever that means).
This confirms our long held view that the 1V1D program of the Akufo-Addo government is fraudulent and an abuse of the Public Purse.
Indeed, the people of Northern Ghana have been shortchanged. They are being served with excavated ponds instead of the Dams they were promised.
